All students are taught to be proficient in the core subjects, and Jupiter Academy prepares students to be successful in their continuing education, in their future careers, and in being productive citizens.

Kindergarten

The kindergarten curriculum at Jupiter Academy focuses on academics in reading, writing, spelling, math, science and social studies. Students work together in whole group instruction, as well as in small groups with four to five students and the teacher. Our kindergarten curriculum provides for students’ different learning styles and the needs of auditory, visual, tactile and kinesthetic learners are met so that students can be successful regardless of their learning style. Our motto is “The more ways you teach, the more people you reach.” The curriculum provides for meaningful experiences and encourages the developmental level of each student. Although academics are of high priority, social interaction with each other is just as important. Much of kindergarten is also about learning to get along, share and play together. The students are given opportunities to participate in self-directed centers and dramatic play daily. The Jupiter Academy kindergarten program is a highly structured, active program that provides the skills necessary for a successful and enjoyable kindergarten experience.

Language Arts

Language Arts is an important part of the curriculum at Jupiter Academy. An integrated language arts methodology, including literature, poetry, writing, grammar and vocabulary, is implemented. Critical reading and thinking skills are stressed in every discipline. Students develop reading comprehension strategies to identify main ideas, author’s purpose, valid inferences and conclusions, and relationships of words and ideas within sentences and paragraphs.

Mathematics

Mathematics is a discipline with its own language and convention that has its own vocabulary and patterns of thinking. The goal of Jupiter Academy’s math curriculum is to progressively prepare each student for the advanced study of mathematics. We recognize that mathematics requires incremental review and steady practice. Besides the continued effort required to master facts and operations, we provide practice that approaches problem-solving from a variety of angles. This approach gives students opportunities to apply similar concepts or operations to different situations. Mathematics is a cumulative subject, meaning material that is learned from the early grades is continually built upon throughout the student’s educational experiences.

Science

Students at Jupiter Academy enjoy a hands-on approach to science. Effective instruction requires experimentation and observation to achieve the benefits of scientific discoveries. Using a systematic approach that covers both experimentation and text can provide essential building blocks for deeper understanding at a later time in a child’s life. Jupiter Academy’s science program provides opportunities for investigations including a unit about Plant Life and the Ecosystem, a visit to the planetarium to study the solar system, and a three-day visit to Sea Camp for middle school students.

Social Studies

The social studies program makes students aware of the past, present, and future of our world. The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world. Our interactive social studies program assists students to discover through maps, globes and innovative curriculum, making learning about the United States and the world around them extremely exciting. Each year, our fifth-grade students travel to Washington, D.C., to learn about and experience our country’s government and history. The fourth-grade students travel to St. Augustine for two days experience and explore Florida’s oldest city, its culture and heritage.

Foreign Language

Jupiter Academy’s foreign language program helps each student obtain an acceptable degree of proficiency in the skills of listening, conversing, reading and writing the Spanish language. Students are introduced to Spanish in pre-school and continue to study the language through middle school.
